Integrating with ActiveCampaign

Improve the deliverability of your ActiveCampaign campaigns by using Kickbox email verification. Whether verifying existing lists before a send or validating addresses in real-time as contacts are added, Kickbox helps you maintain clean data, protect your sender reputation, and boost campaign performance.

Two Options: List-Based & Real-Time Verification

You can verify emails in ActiveCampaign using:

Option 1: List-Based Verification through the Kickbox ActiveCampaign integration

Option 2: Real-Time Verification using ActiveCampaign Automations and Zapier

Option 1: Verifying ActiveCampaign Lists via Kickbox

1. Within your Kickbox account, click the white Add Integration button on the left-side menu.
2. In the new modal that appears, Add New Integration, select ActiveCampaign.

A new window will appear asking you to add your ActiveCampaign account name & API key as your password. You'll need to follow the instructions on this modal to obtain your ActiveCampaign Account Name & API key to paste into this form field. Once you've added your ActiveCampaign Account Name simply add your API key into the password field and press the Add Integration button.

Verifying an ActiveCampaign List

Select which list you would like to import by selecting the respective checkboxes, then click the Import Button.

Your lists will be imported and analyzed to determine the number of email addresses in the lists and then placed in your Active List queue. Click the blue Start List button on each list you’d like to begin processing.

You can close the window, turn off your computer, walk away, or otherwise go about your day; you will receive an email notifying you when your lists have been completed.

Exporting Data back to ActiveCampaign

At the bottom you will see two options:

1. Export--which will send this information back to your ActiveCampaign account and
2. Download--which will download the results directly to your computer. Click Export, and a new window will appear

The Export Deliverable tile is selected by default, but you may choose another option.

This option is selected by default and will create a new list in your ActiveCampaign Lists. This list will contain only the Deliverable email addresses from your list.

Your original list will remain intact. If you prefer to export your results differently, you will need to click the blue Filter button to make your unique selections.

Once you have made your selection, either the default setting or a custom filter, press Export and allow some time for Kickbox to send this information to ActiveCampaign.

When the process has completed, you will receive an email letting you know.

Option 2: Automated Email Verification Using Zapier

Instead of verifying lists manually, it is possible to leverage Zapier to integrate Kickbox with ActiveCampaign, creating automated workflows that validate email addresses as soon as they are added to ActiveCampaign lists. This streamlined, no-code approach ensures immediate email verification, distinguishing deliverable contacts from potentially risky ones.

What You’ll Need

• An ActiveCampaign account
• A Zapier account
• A Kickbox account with an API key generated (Sign up for a free account)
• A list in ActiveCampaign to trigger the verification flow

Create Custom Fields in ActiveCampaign

In order to be able to map the Kickbox data to ActiveCampaign contacts in Zapier, you will first need to create the attributes in ActiveCampaign.

1. Log into your ActiveCampaign dashboard.
2. Navigate to Settings > Manage Data > Manage fields (under Contacts).
3. Create the following text fields as custom contact data points with the Field Type as “Text Input”
   • Verification Result
   • Verification Reason
   • Role Address
   • Free Address
   • Disposable Address
   • Accept All Address
   • Did You Mean
   • Sendex Score

Create a Zap in Zapier

1. Log in to your Zapier account.
2. Click Create Zap.
3. For the Trigger, search for and select Webhooks by Zapier.
4. Choose the Catch Hook (Instant) trigger event.
5. Click Continue twice (no child key is needed).
6. Select a sample contact. Copy the Webhook URL provided — you will need this for ActiveCampaign.

Set Up an ActiveCampaign Automation

1. Log into your ActiveCampaign dashboard.
2. Navigate to Automations and click Create An Automation.
3. Select Start from Scratch and name your automation, such as 'Kickbox API Automation'.
4. Set 'Subscribes to a list' as the trigger event.
5. Select the list you want to monitor, like 'All Contacts'.
6. Click Save.

Add a Webhook to the Automation

1. Select “+” to add an action to your Automation. Under the Workflow tab, select Webhook.
2. Paste the Webhook URL you copied from Zapier into the “Enter the URL to post to” field.
3. Click Save.
4. Toggle the Status tab from Inactive to Active.

Add a Test Profile in ActiveCampaign

1. Go to Contacts > Lists.
2. Select the list used in your automation.
3. Click Add Contact.
4. Enter test details, such as '[email protected]', and click Add.
5. This action will trigger the automation and send the profile to Zapier.

Capture and Verify the Email in Zapier

1. In Zapier, return to your Zap and click Continue With Selected Contact.
2. Search for and add Kickbox as the next action.
3. Choose the Verify Email Address event.
4. Connect your Kickbox account. Sign up for free and generate an API key if you haven’t yet.
5. Map the email field from the Webhook to Kickbox.
6. Click Test Step — Kickbox will return verification results.

Update the ActiveCampaign Profile with Verification Results

1. Click the + icon to add another Zapier action.
2. Search for and select ActiveCampaign.
3. Choose the Create or Update Contact event.
4. Connect your ActiveCampaign account.
5. Set the Email field to the value from the Webhook trigger.
6. Under Custom Fields, map the following fields from the Kickbox response:

Final Steps

1. Name your Zap, like 'ActiveCampaign Verification with Kickbox'.
2. Click Publish Zap.
3. Back in ActiveCampaign, view the test contact to confirm that custom fields were updated.
